Medical Equipment on Desk

Our Joint Injection Clinic offers safe, effective, and evidence-based treatment for
patients experiencing joint or soft tissue pain. This service is provided within the practice
by trained GPs with specific expertise in musculoskeletal medicine and joint injections.

We offer assessment and injection therapy for a range of conditions including:

  • Osteoarthritis (e.g., knee, shoulder)

  • Bursitis

  • Tendonitis

  • Frozen shoulder

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome (in selected cases)

Treatment involves:

  • A full clinical assessment

  • Discussion of risks, benefits, and alternative treatment options

  • Use of corticosteroid and/or local anaesthetic injections when clinically indicated

Our goal is to reduce pain, improve function, and support patients in managing their
musculoskeletal conditions effectively. This service is delivered in line with current Irish
and international clinical guidelines.

Referral Criteria:

  • Patients must be assessed by a GP prior to referral

  • Imaging (e.g., X-ray. MRI or ultrasound) may be required before certain injections

  • The service is not suitable for patients with suspected infection, complex joint disease, or where specialist rheumatology or orthopaedic input is more appropriate

Note:

  • Not all joint problems are suitable for injection therapy. Patients will be carefully assessed to ensure that this is the right option for them.

  • There is a fee for this service for all patients (it is not covered on the medical card)
